This page allows registered users of WinTD to download a patch file to update from Version 4.0 to Version 4.01. See the 4.03 updates page to update from 4.01 to 4.03.
Version 4.01 was a minor update to WinTD 4.0. Changes included modifications required to handle some revisions made by to USCF's ratings database format, fixes to some aspects of importing data for computing prize distributions, rearranging a couple of dialogs to support smaller screen resolutions (800x600 or less), and a few other minor improvements.
Before downloading a 4.01 patch file, you need to determine which patch file you need, as there are actually two releases of WinTD labeled 4.00, and each requires a specific patch file.
You can identify which release you have by checking the date of the file "WINTD32.EXE" installed on your system. The easiest way is to use the Windows Explorer program to view the contents of your WinTD directory. Start Windows Explorer, navigate to the WinTD directory (by default, it would be C:\Program Files\Estima\WinTD 4.0\, although you may have installed into a different directory).
Use the "View" menu to select the "details" view, so that you can see the dates of each file, and then look for the date on WINTD32.EXE. Note that that you may also have the slower, 16-bit version of WinTD, called WINTD.EXE, installed on your system. If so, make sure you check the date of WINTD32.EXE, not WINTD.EXE.
If the date on the WinTD32.EXE file is from October 8, 2002, then you have the original 4.00 release. If the date is from December 2, 2002, then you have the newer 4.00a revision. Use the links below to download the appropriate patch file update.
To update from the October, 2002 release of WinTD 4.00, download the patch file PatchWinTD400401.exe
To update from the December, 2002 4.00a release of WinTD, download the patch file PatchWinTD400a401.exe
If you are using the slower, 16-bit version (only necessary on Windows 3.1 systems), contact Estima for details on updating.
First, download one of the patch files above into a temporary directory. Then, using Windows Explorer or the Run operation on the Start menu, execute the patch file.
This loads an Installer program, that will ask you to specify the location of your existing WinTD files. Once you do that, the program should automatically update the executable file (and in some cases the Help file). Once the patch program has finished updating the files, you can try running WinTD. If you do Help-About WinTD, the program should report the version number as 4.01.
