WinTD assigning full-point byes

Postby ChessHead1 » Sun May 18, 2014 9:51 pm

Does WinTD follow the USCF rules for full-point byes? USCF Rule book 28L2, 28L3, 28L4?

How would WinTD handle the case of assigning byes in a 4-round tournament? It doesn't know in advance how many rounds will be in the tournament. 28L5 allows for the special case of a 4-round tournament, giving a bye to a rated player one score group above. So given a choice between assigning a bye to an unrated player in the lowest score group, or a rated player one score group higher, how would WinTD handle this case?

Also, can the handling of unrated byes be customized through options or preference file settings? Thanks.

Yes. However, we don't have any direct way to force the bye up to a higher score group to give an unrated player 4 rounds. However, what you can do is to trick the program by giving the unrated player a full point bye in round five (or any round off the end of your tournament). Avoiding giving a player two full point byes takes precedence over rated/unrated and score group so the unrated won't get a bye in rounds 1-4 and the round five bye will never affect the results or pairings in any other way.
